Lundqvist Back In The Crease Against Canucks After Talbot Casually Posts Another Shutout
Cam motherfucking Talbot. 12-6. 1.67 GAA. .940 save percentage. Held opponents to 2 goals or less in 15 of 18 starts. 3 shutouts. Oh, and 1 sweet Viva la Blueshirts tee.
Find me a better second-string netminder. You can’t. Hell, Talbot may very well be the Rangers‘ MVP. Besides Ryan McDonagh, every other Blueshirt has been up & down throughout the year – except their 26 year-old rookie no-name making $500k (about what Lundqvist makes in a busy week). The guy who only got his shot in the first place because Marty Biron quit. Pretty incredible story, and fortunate one for the Rangers. Considering how close the playoff race is in the East, it’s easy to say they could’ve missed out without Killa Cam. They still got him at the same price for next year, but hopefully he gets a raise & stays put instead of hitting the open market in 2015. Kid deserves it & has proven to be a great option B if anything happens to Hank.
After Talbot’s goose-egg in Edmonton, Lundqvist will be back in net to protect home-ice in what’s shaping up to be a first-round date with the Flyers. Regardless of opponent, the Rangers path to locking up #2 in the Metro looks like an easy one. Not as easy as playing the Oilers 6 more times, but the Sens, Canes & Sabres at MSG aren’t all that daunting. Neither is a trip to Vancouver tonight in what looks like the close of a one-and-done season for John Tortorella. Strange how that didn’t work out, but the last thing the Blueshirts can do is let him enjoy a little spoiler action. Not with a visit to Colorado on deck. With a rested King & 4 goals/game average over their last 7, NY shouldn’t have a problem putting a nail in Torts’ coffin.
